After the Pie is Gone

Blog Post #178

Do you feel stressed after a holiday event? Do you, like me, feel a bit of tension after a big family gathering? Don’t get me wrong — I love getting together with parents, siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts — the stories, the laughs, the conversations, and conviviality — it’s so good to be with loved ones. I look forward to to sharing a meal, lifting a glass (or two!) and catching up with all the family news.

But these family parties can be stress-inducing — the noise, uproarious laughter, too much food, and too many glasses of wine can definitely bring on a feeling of tiredness, and tension along with the joy of celebrating. When the pie is gone, the mood can be a little anticlimactic.

So, what’s a girl to in the aftermath of a great party that has left her feeling tired, tense and, maybe, just a little cranky? That’s right — a long, luxurious bath with candles, bubbles, sweetly scented soaps and a good book. And maybe, one last glass of wine!

Ahhh, there is nothing like a good soak in a hot tub to relax those tight muscles and release that tension around the temples. Sipping wine and reading a couple of chapters while the warm water soothes the soul and brings a languid, sleepiness to the body.

All is well, and oh, wasn’t it lovely to get together with all the family! Can’t wait for our big family Christmas dinner!
