Nothing to Wear!

Blog Post #147

I’ve never been much of a fashion plate kind of a girl — I mean, I’ve always like to wear nice clothes and look good in them — but I’ve never worried much about developing a “style” of my own. I bought things that I liked and felt comfortable wearing, and didn’t care about making a fashion statement.

Now, though, that I’m getting older, I’m feeling a little frumpy, worn around the edges and wondering worrying if the clothes I wear are appropriate for a woman over 50. (And then, I fret because, seriously, that’s a first world problem!)

So, what should a mature woman wear these days? Jeans? With a t-shirt? Leggings? With a tunic? Skinny chinos? With a kimono top? Bright colours? Prints? Neutral colours? What about shoes? Flats? Heels? Converse? Boots?

Hmm— maybe it’s time to settle for comfort and stick to yoga pants, or… maybe it’s time for a little web browsing with my BFF, Google!

Wow! I didn’t realize how many websites, blogs, and Pinterest boards there are out there about fashion and style for women over 50! Guess, I’m not the only one who isn’t sure of what to put on in the morning!

I think I’m going to do a bit more searching, do a little more thinking, and do a LOT of purging in my closet!! Oh, did I tell you — I am definitely going to take a better look at the 10-Piece minimalist wardrobe? I figure if I can get rid of 496 items around my house — then for sure, I can work with 10 pieces (or so) of clothing! Maybe I’ll figure out the 10-Piece Wardrobe for Women Over 50!!

You should wear all of the above! I usually know what I want to wear and what my style is, but it’s finding that affordably in the stores that I feel so challenged by. I dont know why fashion retail isnt serving women our age – we’ve got a few $$ to spend and dont want to look like our moms or our daughters! Aggghhh, you got me started!

I know, right? I was encouraged the other day when I happened to be at Guildford mall. H & M had some great photos on their wall of a gorgeous mature model — maybe that is a sign of the tide turning! I hope so…
