The Game is Almost Over — It’s Day 29

29 Jul

Blog Post #110

With only two days left in the 30-day minimalism game (well, the 31-day game!), I thought I had better catch up with the recording of my purging. At the end of Day 28, I realized that it is really true: I will not have gone through my entire place and I KNOW that I have much, much more minimizing to do! For example, as I began to go through my magazine collection (it is quite extensive) and I became fairly certain that I will come close to — if not actually reaching— 61 magazines to give away for days 30 and  31.

On Day 28, I recycled ten magazines — I decided not to donate them to the thrift store as they were free publications — a little weird to take them to a place that would want to sell them, right? Day 29 is magazines only (29 of them) and there are plenty more to go through.

I guess my  storage room will have to wait!! (okay, I know that I can continue on minimizing without playing the game!! The game makes it fun!)

Day 26-28

This is what’s going to the thrift store for Days 26 -28

So, here is a recap:

Day 27 — 1 cheese knife, 2 butter knives, 1 plastic whisk, 1 coffee scoop (apparently, I missed one yesterday!), 1 pastry cutter, 3 sushi mats, 1 melon baller, 5 measuring spoons (all from different sets!) 1 Chinese soup spoon, 3 cookie cutters, 1 wine stopper, 1 pair of jeans, 1 world atlas, 1 frisbee, 1 red glass vase, 1 potato masher, 2 small jars with lids.

Holy smokes! I should take this challenge too. My wife and I end up moving every three years or so and that usually prompts me to toss/donate a ton of stuff. Maybe a challenge like this might reduce the inevitable blow I will suffer. It’s crazy to think you found 435 items to get rid of – that’s impressive to say the least.

Thanks for offering this life hack, I think I’m going to give it a whirl.

      Thank you for your comment.

It really does feel good to be minimizing and getting rid of clutter, etc. The really crazy thing is, I am doing this challenge with 3 other friends and at the end of the month, we will have collectively donated/sold/ trashed 1,984 things!! It is a little bit sad that 4 people had 2000 items in their homes that they don’t need!! Talk about first world problems!!

Good luck in your challenge. Oh and if you would like to find out more about minimalism, check out The Minimalists website ( That is where I found out about the 30-day minimalism game.
