Blog Post #82
It’s Canada’s 149th birthday today — and the crowds have been out celebrating with picnics, barbecues and beach parties. Later, after the sun sets, the carousers will find the best vantage point and settle in on their blankets or lawn chairs to wait for the celebratory fireworks.
As Canadians, we have a lot to be thankful for and to celebrate, not the least is the compassion, inclusiveness, and diversity, that is found across our wonderful country.
“…with glowing hearts we see thee rise, our true North strong and free!”
Happy Birthday, Canada!
I hope you are having a fun and safe celebration!
The game is on! My first item is a donation/trash thing. A jacket that I have had for years has finally worn out. The zipper won’t work and there are indelible marks and spots on the cuffs and the shoulders. Even though it looks pretty good in the photo below, this jacket isn’t suitable to wear anymore, but I didn’t want to throw it in the trash — thinking about the landfill…
So, I took it to a local H & M clothing store and deposited it in their garment collection bin — a recycling/donation program for used clothing and textiles. The store sells the clothing that is still wearable (as used) and invests the money into research, innovation and social projects. Textiles and clothes that are shabby and timeworn will be made into other products (such as cleaning cloths), everything else will be turned into textile fibres or used to make insulation or other products.
