Good Morning! Five Tips For a Great Day

1 May

MorningBlog Post #22

The past two weeks have wreaked havoc on my life (staying most nights in the hospital with my daughter, waiting for test results, waiting for her surgery, etc.) but things are slowly returning to normal and I am trying to build a new morning routine to help me get back in my “groove”.

So I thought a bit about the time I have in the mornings and what I could do differently to start every day in a positive and healthy way. Here are my 5 tips to wake up to a good morning!

1. Don’t hit the snooze button! Science tells us that hitting the snooze button again and again actually makes you more tired instead of giving you a few more minutes of needed sleep. To end my groggy mornings, I have moved my alarm clock away from my nightstand so I HAVE to get out of bed to turn it off!

2. Make lemonade. I’ve heard that drinking a glass of lemon water first thing in the morning, helps you to wake up, rehydrates your body and kickstarts your metabolism. Lemons are also a good source of potassium and can boost your immune system and can aid in weight loss. I’m going to give this a try — I usually have a glass of water in the morning, so it will be easy to add in some lemons. But this in no way means that I am going to give up my cup of coffee! No way!!

3. Pump it up! Morning is the perfect time to get a little exercise in. I love this mini workout— it gets my heart going and I love the energy I feel when I’m done. Check it out — it’s great for beginners!  Sometimes, if I feel a bit more low energy, I like to do a few minutes of yoga or a sun salutation. Movement helps to get me going and helps to set a positive tone for the rest of my day.

4. Wake up to gratitude. I spend few moments every morning, noticing and giving thanks for the new day and for all the abundance in my life. This sets the tone for my day — and I feel positive, strong, happy and caring.

5. Coffee! Seriously, I love my morning cup of Joe.

What do you do in the morning to start your day off right?

I too have been trying to remember blessings in the morning. I try to read for a few minutes with my tea. And drink your lemon water with a straw, it’s hard on the enamel of your teeth, I recently heard. ❤
